Phono Stage/Phono Preamp for RIAA/78 rpm/Pre-RIAA Vinyl: Revelation M and C Phono Stage Preamps (moving magnet and moving coil versions)Both Revelation phono stage preamps are identical to the original Revelation phono stage preamp with the exception that the Revelation M is now lower noise, and the Revelation C is for moving coil.
They are switchable-equalisation-curve versions of the Reflex M and Reflex C phono stage preamps.
"...the musical
delivery steps up several levels - to the extent that with certain records it
starts to challenge the musical virtues (as opposed to the sonic qualities) of
the more expensive units here."
[Roy Gregory, Graham Slee Revelation, Hi-Fi +, May 2008] The Revelation phono stage preamps build on the sonic strengths of the earlier Jazz Club phono stage preamp. The different equalisation (EQ) curves for non-RIAA records are explained in "From 78rpm through to RIAA equalization" (click link). The different curves are selected on a switch-matrix on the front panel. When switched to RIAA for all modern (post 1954) records, the Revelation shares the same performance of its Reflex stable mate. Like its Jazz Club predecessor the Revelation also "rides" the clicks, reducing surface noise through higher propagation speeds. Apart from badly worn or damaged records, surface noise is relegated to a position well behind the music...
"The Jazz Club is also accomplished in this respect, but the Revelation moved
the performance up a few notches, with records sounding noticeably cleaner."
[Tony Bolton, Graham Slee Revelation, Hi-Fi World, May 2008] Power Supply
For the 2009/2010 season, the Revelation phono stage preamps can be supplied with a universal-voltage energy-efficient plug mounted power supply. It can also be powered by its original linear PSU1 power supply, and both options are available - see prices below.
